Last month, Protos Labs' Threat Research team conducted a study on recent data breaches in Singapore for a client. I reviewed some of the artefacts that the team gathered from the dark web, and was taken aback by how much sensitive information had been leaked by the threat actors. I wrote this post with Ken Yeo-Moriuchi to share some of our findings. Many businesses I meet in the course of my work think that they are too small to be a target or have nothing valuable for threat actors to steal. "Does cyber insurance cover outages like the Crowdstrike incident?" That was the question posed to me by one of our guests at a panel session during Protos Cover's launch event yesterday. I never imagined launching our insurance entity alongside such a major IT outage event."It depends..." was my answer in short and I suspect there will be alot of claims coming out from this over the next few weeks. Some policies exclude non-malicious events like this and there are other factors like waiting periods, sublimits and deductibles that have to be considered. Regardless, it underscores the importance of having some coverage to protect your balance sheet. One of the things I appreciate most in my role is being able to travel to new places and meet people from around the world. Last week, I was brought to the amazing city of Chicago with all it's Gothem-like charm and beauty. Building a startup is hard and sometimes it's easy to forget that the journey is as important as the destination. A good reminder as I look ahead to a week of activity in Singapore. First with a panel on cyber catastrophes with Gallagher Re and CyberCube, and then catching up with industry folks at InsureTech Connect #itcasia. I first visited Silicon Valley as a young EDB officer in 2016. Back then, we were looking at the innovation landscape in the robotics sector and visited multiple startups in the bay area. The experience captivated me and I told myself one day I would return representing my own startup. This week, I had the chance to share about the exciting work are doing in cyber insurance in Asia Pacific at the Plug and Play Tech Center Silicon Valley Summit. It has been nothing short of fantastic and has given me alot to think about as we shape the future of cyber insurance in the region, especially the impact that multimodal AI has on our business. I also made new and wonderful friends! A big shout out to the team at Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore contingent, and fellow Insuretech batch mates that went on stage. Looking ahead, we have big plans for Protos Labs in 2024 and I bring back much food for thought as we enter the new year!

I'm not one to regularly post here, but today I would like to share some fantastic news. 🎉Joel L. and I embarked on our startup journey after a random chat at Ya Kun two years ago. Back then, COVID-19 was raging, we had both just started families, and faced many doubts and uncertainties. But we knew this was something we wanted to do. So together, we pushed through, and today, we've successfully closed our seed round. 🌱A massive thank you to the awesome team at Protos Labs, our clients, supporters, investors, and all the like-minded folks who've been part of this journey. It's been an incredible ride, and we can't wait to see what the future holds!
