The winners of the 2023 Scottish Italian Awards were announced on Monday, celebrating the top Italian food and drink destinations around the country.
Judged by both the public and a "panel of esteemed independent" critics, winners from around Scotland were selected in categories such as 'Scotland’s Best Newcomer', 'Scotland’s Best Deli', and 'Scotland’s Best Restaurant Dessert'.
Among the most prominent awards was Scotland’s Best Fish and Chips, which was won by Tony’s Chip Shop in the North Lanarkshire town of Coatbridge. As reported by the Daily Record, the chippy previously saw success at last year's Scottish Italian Awards.
Meanwhile, the top Italian restaurants in each part of the country were also crowned, with Da Vinci Italian Restaurant in Aberdeen and La Dolce Vita in Dumfries taking home the North and South awards respectively. Elsewhere, Osteria in North Berwick was named the top restaurant in the East, Piccolo Mondo in Glasgow won for the West, and Mamma Mia Restaurant in Stirling came out on top for the Central Belt.
Other categories at the Scottish Italian Awards included Scotland’s Best Pizza, Scotland’s Best Barista, and Scotland’s Best Wine Selection, which were won by Firemill Pizza & Grill in Milltimber, Ronzio Coffeehouse in Glasgow, and Divino Enoteca in Edinburgh respectively.
A Scottish Italian Awards spokesperson said: "From the start of the Italian Awards, our goal has been to ensure that Italian businesses are given as much exposure as possible. There are some real hidden gems, winning an award at the Italian Awards can change your hidden gem into a national sensation.
"Our 10th anniversary did not disappoint, the passion and determination of Italian restaurateurs helps maintain Italian cuisine as the number one choice for diners in Scotland. I want to congratulate all winners and highly recommended businesses for 2023.
