What is the Bimini Road Atlantis theory? ›

Located in waters west of the bluff of North Bimini are beautiful square blocks and perfectly straight alignments of stones referred to as The Bimini Road. Fifteen hundred feet long, these stones lie in an orderly row. It is believed that this was part of the road system of the Lost Continent of Atlantis.

Atlantis, on the other hand, has never been found or verified by any scientific evidence. It exists only in the imagination, as a symbol of lost greatness and utopian ideals. Despite this, both cities continue to inspire and intrigue people to this day.

No written records of Atlantis exist outside of Plato's dialogues, including in any of the numerous other texts that survive from ancient Greece. Furthermore, despite modern advances in oceanography and ocean-floor mapping, no trace of such a sunken civilization has ever been found.

The consensus among conventional geologists and archaeologists is that the Bimini Road is a natural feature composed of beachrock that orthogonal and other joints have broken up into rectangular, subrectangular, polygonal, and irregular blocks.

Back in 1968, a team of three underwater archaeologists – Joseph Manson Valentine, Jacques Mayol – came upon a series of limestone blocks laid out in a linear pattern, resembling a paved road. Later, this formation was named as Bimini Road.

Around 360 B.C., Plato wrote that Atlantis was a great and wonderful empire destroyed some 11,000 years before by earthquakes and floods during a 24-hour period.

Plato's 51 clues included a location near the sea; a location outside the "Pillars of Heracles", which many believe to be Gibraltar; the presence of elephants; mountains to its north; a ringlike structure of the city; and most importantly it had to be within roughly 5000km from Athens.
